Valery Playful Rhythm Backstage
Valery arrived on set already completely inside her own little world pink headphones on, music playing, and that unmistakable happy Valery mood.
At first I honestly thought, okay, she will take them off when we start shooting. 😄
I showed her the location, the chair, the light, and started explaining what I wanted from the first shots. Valery was looking at me with this beautiful but slightly confused expression, almost like, David… what exactly do you want from me?
Then I realized the obvious problem.
She couldn’t hear me. 😂
I tried again, this time getting closer, and she finally pulled one side of the headphones away. I started explaining the idea when she smiled and basically told me:
“Don’t change my mood, David. I’m so happy with you here. Let’s continue.”
And that was it. The headphones stayed.
Actually, it turned out to be perfect. Instead of fighting against her mood, I decided to follow it. Valery kept listening to her music while I photographed her, moving with her own rhythm, playing with her hair, teasing me with her eyes and sometimes completely forgetting that I was waiting for the next pose.
There were moments when I wanted her to turn, change position or look toward me, and I had to start communicating almost completely with my hands. Sometimes she understood immediately. Sometimes she gave me that look again what do you want now? and we both started laughing.
But that freedom gave the set something special. She wasn’t trying too hard to pose. She was simply enjoying herself, following the music and letting me catch the moments in between. The cute pink headphones, the little ribbons, the tropical garden and Valery’s playful energy somehow all became part of the same story.
And while Valery was happily disappearing into her music, I had another problem developing behind me: very dark tropical clouds.
So suddenly we had two rhythms on set Valery’s music and me watching the sky thinking, please, just give me another twenty minutes. 😄
We started moving faster, trying to finish before the rain arrived, but Valery was completely relaxed. She kept smiling, teasing, slowly undressing and enjoying every second as if there wasn’t a tropical storm preparing itself just behind us.
That contrast made Valery Playful Rhythm even more fun for me. The weather was racing us, I was directing a model who could barely hear me, and somehow everything worked perfectly.
Sometimes the best shoots happen when you stop trying to control every little detail.
Valery kept her headphones on until the very end and looking at the final photos, I’m very happy she did.
