Luna Art The Glamour Before Dawn 1: A Favorite of Mine Backstage
Luna Art The Glamour Before Dawn 1 brings me back to a question I have never managed to answer properly: how do you choose a favorite when you have been lucky enough to photograph so many wonderful models?
Then I think of Luna, and the question becomes a little easier. :)
She is one of my favorite models of all time. I know that is a big thing to say, and I do not say it lightly. What stays with me is the combination of a true lady and someone with so much passion. Elegance on its own is lovely, but Luna brings more than that to my camera.
As a photographer, I can get terribly interested in the small choices. Is a frame giving someone enough space? Am I paying attention to what makes her different, or am I just making another pretty photograph? Those questions matter to me, especially with a model I admire as much as Luna.
And yes, I can make a simple decision about a photograph sound like a very serious philosophical problem. This is what happens when you leave me alone with a camera for too long. :)
With Luna, the thing I want to hold on to is that balance. She has the grace I associate with a lady, but there is real feeling there too. The title says The Glamour Before Dawn, and glamour is certainly a good word for her. But for me, glamour becomes much more interesting when it has some life behind it.
I think that is why Luna has remained such a favorite. Beauty gives me a reason to lift the camera. Personality gives me a reason to keep looking. Passion gives the photographs something I still enjoy coming back to afterward.
That does not mean every photograph needs to shout. Sometimes my favorite work asks for a quieter kind of attention. I want to make room for the person in front of me, rather than try to turn her into an idea I had before I picked up the camera. Luna is the sort of model who reminds me why that matters.
Of course, telling a photographer to keep it simple is a dangerous suggestion. Give me a subject I love photographing and I can start considering every little detail as if the fate of the universe depends on one more frame. Luna deserves that attention, even if my camera and I occasionally take ourselves a bit too seriously.
There is also something very satisfying about a model who can be elegant without feeling distant. That is the part I appreciate most about Luna. The passion makes the glamour feel personal to me. It is not just a beautiful title on a photo set. It is the reason I care about making the photographs in the first place.
So when I look at The Glamour Before Dawn 1, I think of Luna as I have always known her through my camera: a true lady, full of passion, and someone I feel very fortunate to photograph.
Choosing favorites is still difficult. Luna does not make it impossible, though.
