Melania My Wicked Twin 2: Who Am I Supposed to Trust?
Melania My Wicked Twin 2: Who Am I Supposed to Trust? Backstage
Melania My Wicked Twin 2 sounds like trouble before the video even begins. If one twin is the wicked one, should I really trust the other? 😄
That is the kind of question I enjoy taking behind a camera. The title gives me just enough to start imagining possibilities, then refuses to tell me which one is right. Melania gets a wicked twin, and I get the slightly less glamorous job of trying not to jump to conclusions.
Good luck with that, David.
The word “wicked” does a lot of work here. It sounds like a warning, but it also has a little smile hiding in it. I can be suspicious of the title and still want to know more. In fact, that is probably exactly where it wants me.
And what about the other twin? If I decide one is the troublemaker, I have already decided the other is innocent. That seems a bit too easy, doesn’t it? Perhaps the real game is seeing how long I can keep myself from choosing a side.
This is the video version of My Wicked Twin 2, which makes that question even more fun for me as a director. With a photograph, I can hold on to a single expression. I can look at it again and convince myself I have worked everything out. Video is less accommodating. It asks me to stay with a moment long enough to see whether my first impression survives the next one.
That is also what makes it so tempting. A glance might suggest one thing. A pause might leave me wondering. Then the moment moves on, and my photographer’s instinct wants to pull it back and inspect it like evidence.
Sorry, camera brain. We’re directing a video today.
I enjoy that little argument with myself. Part of me wants the perfect instant, the one that says everything at once. Another part knows that a playful idea needs room to breathe. If I rush to explain the mystery, I take away the pleasure of wondering about it.
I could imagine giving Melania a direction like, “Be mysterious, but make sure I know exactly what you’re thinking.” I could also imagine the look I would deserve for saying something so unhelpful. Fortunately, that thought can stay in my head, where it belongs.
The “2” in the title makes me laugh as well. Apparently, the question of one wicked twin wasn’t enough. Now I have another chance to test my judgment, and I am not feeling especially confident about it.
What I like about working with a title like this is the invitation it gives me. I can lean into its teasing side without settling the argument for anyone else. Melania is at the center of it, but the answer does not have to be handed over neatly. A little uncertainty can be much more enjoyable than a tidy explanation.
So I am going to leave you with the same question I started with. When you watch Melania in My Wicked Twin 2, which twin would you trust?
I’m still deciding. And honestly, I suspect that is half the fun.
