This shooting week with Cherry Blossom for Femjoy was a little battle with the weather. I had imagined sunshine, warm light and plenty of time outside, but instead we got rain, wind… and more rain. Every morning I was checking the sky, hoping for one small opening.
Then finally we got it.
For a short moment the wind calmed down, the rain disappeared, and I looked at the garden and said, “Okay, now. We go.” We grabbed the camera gear and jumped outside before the weather could change its mind again.
Cherry is exactly the kind of girl you want beside you in a situation like this. She is incredibly energetic, always smiling, and has this very positive energy that immediately makes a shoot feel easier. Even after spending most of the week waiting on the weather, the moment we started shooting she was completely ready to play.
She had been walking around all day in those tiny denim shorts, and when I saw her in the garden I thought… why change anything? They looked so natural on her, almost like we had caught her during a private summer afternoon rather than preparing a photo set.
That became the feeling of Secret Garden.
We started softly between the green trees and warm Mediterranean colors, but Cherry very quickly brought her own playful energy into it. The little denim look gave her a kind of comfort zone at first, and I think that made the transformation during the set even sexier. Nothing felt forced. She was relaxed, teasing the camera, smiling one second and giving me that much more dangerous look the next.
The funny part is that we knew our little window of good weather could disappear at any moment, so there was this extra energy behind the camera too. No time to overthink anything. Just shoot, move, laugh, and keep going.
Sometimes the sets you have to fight a little bit to get are the ones that feel the most alive afterward.
And with Cherry in that garden, I think we used our few minutes of sunshine very well.
