Liana Luck Blue Bathing Suit: Three Days Became Two Weeks
Liana Luck Blue Bathing Suit: Three Days Became Two Weeks Backstage
Liana Luck Blue Bathing Suit brings me back to a question I never expected to hear on a three-day shoot: “David, can I stay longer?”
The answer was no.
I’m joking, of course. 😄
Liana and I had planned to shoot together for three days on a tropical island. Then she saw the villa and asked if she could stay longer. Somehow, those three days became two wonderful weeks together.
I have to admit, I understand her question. If you arrive expecting a short visit and immediately want more time, that says something about how you feel in a place. It also made me smile. I had a shooting plan, and Liana had a very good question for the man who made it.
What was I supposed to do, start counting down the hours more loudly?
For me, the extra time was about more than extending a schedule. It gave us room to enjoy being there and to get to know each other better. We became friends, and that positive feeling mattered when I picked up my camera.
A photo set can look effortless when you see the finished pictures. On my side of the camera, I’m still watching closely, trying to notice what feels natural and when to take the photograph. I can give direction, of course, but I don’t want every image to feel like it happened because I asked for it.
That is one reason I appreciate working with someone I enjoy spending time with. There is less need to push for a mood. I can pay attention to Liana as she is, and we can make photographs together instead of treating every moment like another item on a list.
Was I suddenly a much better photographer because our three-day plan turned into two weeks? Let’s not give me too much credit. 😄 But I do think friendship and a good mood helped us make better work. That was true of our time together, and it is part of what I remember when I look at Blue Bathing Suit.
The title may be the first thing you notice when you find the MetArt set. For me, it also brings back the larger memory: Liana liking the villa enough to ask for more time, and the two of us getting to spend those unexpected days together on the island.
I still laugh at how quickly my original plan lost the argument. Three days sounded perfectly reasonable to me. Liana asked one question, and suddenly the plan had some explaining to do.
I’m glad it changed. I came to photograph Liana Luck, and I left with photographs I’m happy with and a friendship I value. That is a pretty lovely way for a three-day shoot to turn out.
