Behind The Lace š A Beautiful Afternoon with Monika May
Podcast:
There are shoots that feel like work, and then there are days when everything seems to fall naturally into place. Behind The Lace with Monika May was one of those days.
Working with Monika is genuinely an honor for me. She has so much experience, but what I appreciate most is the attention she gives to every small detail. A movement of her hand, the position of her hair, the way the lace falls across her body, even the direction of a glance she notices everything. She never simply waits for the next photograph; she is involved in creating it with me.
The location was perfect for her. Warm Mediterranean light poured through the doors onto the terracotta floor, with the stone fountain and soft earthy colors giving us this beautiful, timeless atmosphere. Against all that warmth, Monika's long brunette hair, delicate gold jewelry and cream crochet looked incredibly elegant. The lace gave us exactly the kind of teasing beginning I wanted revealing a little, hiding a little, and slowly disappearing as the shoot became more intimate.
What I loved was how calm the whole session remained. There was no need to rush. Monika understands how tiny changes can completely transform an image, so we could play with angles, posture and light until everything felt right. Sometimes the difference between a good photograph and the one you really remember is only a few centimeters, and Monika has an eye for those details.
And of course, once the lace was gone, there was nothing left to distract from her. Just Monika, that wonderful afternoon light, and the beautiful confidence she brings in front of my camera.
Behind The Lace is now online at SexArt, and looking through the finished photographs brings me straight back to that afternoon. A wonderful shoot, a beautiful woman, and one of those collaborations that reminds me why I still love creating photographs after all these years.
